The Ronald Reagan Museum at Eureka College

Keeping the legacy alive

Housed in the Donald B. Cerf Center, the Reagan Museum at Eureka College features a collection of over 10,000 items (3,000 are on display) from President Reagan's student days at Eureka, his movie and television career, his eight years as Governor of California, his campaign for presidency, and his two terms in office. At the request of Mr. Reagan, the first items in the collection came to the College in 1975. It is now the largest collection of Reagan memorabilia outside of the Reagan library in California.

COLLECTION FACTS

There are nearly 1,000 pieces on display at any given time. Items of special significance capture the history of Reagan's life from his childhood through his presidency. The Reagan family made the two largest primary donations to the Museum in 1975 and 1980. Items arrive on an almost daily basis from donors around the world as the value of this accessible collection continues to grow.

EXPLORING THE MUSEUM

Artifacts and documents are arranged to highlight Ronald Reagan's accomplishments throughout his illustrious life and career. From humble beginnings to political genius, each case displays items that capture the essence of Ronald Reagan. Quotes on the walls in maroon and gold (school colors) are taken directly from President Reagan. White and maroon plaques near the ceiling offer a time line of life events. Be sure to sign our guest book and visit the college bookstore for memorabilia items.

The museum is free and open to the public. Donations are welcome.

The Ronald Reagan Peace Garden

A place of remembrance

In a May 9, 1982 speech at Eureka College, President Reagan challenged the Soviet Union to a new era of negotiations to reduce nuclear arms -- called START. The speech has been labeled "The Beginning of the End of the Cold War."

To commemorate President Reagan's commitment to world peace and the important 1982 speech he presented at Eureka, the College dedicated the Ronald Reagan Peace Garden in May of 2000. The Peace Garden was a gift to the College from Mr. and Mrs. David J. Vaughan of Peoria Heights, Illinois.

Dedicated on the 18th anniversary of what is known as "The Eureka Speech," highlights of the Peace Garden include a bust of Mr. Reagan, sculpted by nationally-recognized artist, Lonnie Stewart. In designing the bust, Mr. Stewart commented, "There are many different images of Ronald Reagan but I think the one that's most dear to the hearts of all the millions of Americans who loved him, is that Ronald Reagan smile. A smile of reassurance, of dignity and integrity, and one that we all know and love."

The Peace Garden also includes a large remnant of the Berlin Wall. It is only fitting that a piece of the symbolic barrier between East and West that Mr. Reagan helped bring down has found a place at Eureka.
